MEG Laboratory at MRC CBU, Cambridge

In late 2006, a magnetoencephalography (MEG) device has been installed at the CBU to complement the [http://www.mrc-cbu.cam.ac.uk/EEG/ EEG lab] established in 2000 and the MRI scanner [http://imaging.mrc-cbu.cam.ac.uk/mri MRI scanner] built in 2005.

Using MEG technology, we are now able to record brain activation in real time and produce "activation films" that indicate the spreading of excitation through different parts of the brain. The activation waves, or spatio-temporal patterns, can be related to cognitive processes, such as language comprehension, object analysis or motor planning.

See [attachment:MEG_Video_word.avi a brain activation film recorded during the comprehension of a spoken word]

The device installed at the CBU is a 306 channel Vectorview system supplied by Elekta-Neuromage, Stockholm/Helsinki.

MEG research at the CBU

The links and list of references gives you an overview of MEG research projects carried out previously in collaboration with other labs, especially the [http://www.biomag.hus.fi BioMag Lab] at the University of Helsinki, the [http://www.fil.ion.ucl.ac.uk Functional Imaging Lab] at UCL and [http://www.clinical-psychology.uni-konstanz.de the Department of Psychology at the University of Konstanz]

The Standard Operation Procedures for the MEG laboratory can be found here: (link to be added soon).
